_ 岡本太郎が民族学に強い関心をもっていたことは知っていたが，かれがマルセル・モースの教え子であったということは知らなかった。
もうだいぶ前のことになるが，岡本太郎の『沖縄文化論−−忘れられた日本』（中公文庫）を読んで，ちょっと不思議な読後感をもったことがある。その後もときどき引っ張りだして，拾い読みをしたりしているのだが，ところどころにどうしてこんなことを岡本太郎が言うのだろうと，びっくりする。わたしの頭の中では，岡本太郎はどこまでも彫刻家であり画家である。まあ，アーティストの中で完結しているからだ。
今福さんの『ここではない場所』（岩波書店）の終わりの方に，「すべてと無のあいだの深淵−岡本太郎の民族学」という論考が載っている。それを読んでびっくり。岡本太郎はマルセル・モースの教え子である，というのである。しかも，バタイユやカイヨワ，それにミシェル・レリスも一緒に机をならべてマルセル・モースの講義を聴いていた，と。わたしの知識では，バタイユらが主宰していた「社会学研究会」に岡本太郎も参加していた，という程度で，そこでバタイユやカイヨワらと深い親交があったということ。だから，この関係がどのようなものであったのか，ということは以前から知りたかったことではあった。
今福さんの言うには，岡本太郎の『沖縄文化論』は出色の作品であり，マルセル・モースの教えをきちんと理解した上で，さらに岡本流の思考の積み重ねがあり，独自の境地に達している，という。こうなると，もう一度，『沖縄文化論』を読み直す必要がある。当時の最先端の文化人類学の専門的な知識をきちんと身につけた上での「沖縄文化論」なのだ，という条件付きで。これはこれは，また，楽しみが一つ増えた。
しかも，岡本太郎の芸術の根源にあるものはマルセル・モースの教えが色濃く反映している，と今福さんは説く。
さてはて，ますます興味が湧いてくる。わたしの住んでいる近くに，岡本太郎記念美術館もある。母親の岡本かの子の実家もすぐ近くにある。少し，その気になって，あちこち歩いてみようと思う。
今福さんの本からいいきっかけをもらうことができた。
