2008-09-23 ゲンユウさんの『般若心経』
_ ゲンユウソウキュウさん（あえてカタカナ書きに）の『現代語訳般若心経』（ちくま新書）を読んだ。臨済宗の坊さんで作家という条件をフルに活かした作品で，読みごたえがあった。
わたし自身が曹洞宗の寺の出身ということもあって，『般若心経』には特別の思い入れがある。毎朝，父が「般若心経」を寺の本堂であげていた。われわれ子どもたち３人（男兄弟，わたしは３男）は本堂わきの部屋で寝ていて，お経が終わると同時に，父がわれわれの部屋に入ってくる。そのときに，われわれ３人はふとんをたたんで正座して「おはようございます」と挨拶をすることになっていた。もし，それに遅れると「罰則」が課せられることになっていた。だから，みんなお経がはじまると耳をそばだてていて，最後の「ギャアテイ，ギャアテイ・・・」がはじまると飛び起き，ふとんをたたんで正座したものである。だから，いつのまにか，「般若心経」は耳で覚えてしまった。文字をみたこともなし，ましてや，その意味も知らないまま，そらんじていた。こんなことでいいのだろうか，と成人してから反省し，ずいぶん多くの『般若心経』解説本を読むことになった。だから，おぼろげながらもお経の意味はほぼ理解しているつもりである。
しかし，ゲンユウさんの解説は，これまでのだれの解説本とも異色のものであった。解説というよりは，これは一つの「小説」になっている，と言った方が正しいだろう。それも，量子力学まで援用しながら，このお経の神髄を明らかにしてくれる。観音さまが舎利子に向かって，若者たちにはこのように説明してやって欲しい，という筋立てで，みごとな小説世界を構築している。これまで読んだ，どの解説本よりも説得力があって，「空」の意味内容や，お釈迦さんの説いた教えの根幹をわからせてくれる。こんなありがたい本に久しぶりに出会った。
内容に踏み込むと，これはもうエンドレスになってしまいそうなので，割愛する。いつか，また，機会をえて述べてみたいと思う。
ただ，ひとことだけ。以前，書いた「＜外へ＞」ということの正当性をも，このゲンユウさんの本は示唆している。それは，キリスト教文化圏のなかからしか生まれない「科学的思考」とは，まったく対極に位置づくものとして，仏教思想をおき，その典型的なものとして『般若心経』を置く。それはそれはみごとな論理展開である。作家の強みというべきか。こんな風に書いてくれる人は，ゲンユウさんをおいて他にいないだろう。
傑作である。
