2008-11-16 足温器が届く。

_ ４月から借りている事務所の部屋が，１１月に入っていきなり寒くなってきた。あわててエアコンを暖房に切り換えて温めてもらっている。とにかく冷え込むのだ。

そういえば，夏の間はとても涼しくて，エアコンのお世話にもほとんどなることなくやり過ごすことができた。その分，冬は大変のようだ。事務所の部屋は，北側に窓があるマンションの一番端っこである。

本を読んだり，原稿を書いたりするには最適の向きである。南向きの部屋は明るくて，暖かくて，日常の生活をするにはとてもいい。しかし，南向きの部屋では思考力は落ちる，とわたしは経験的に思っている。わたしはもともと寺で育ったので，寺の住職がひとりになって籠もる書院は庫裏のなかでも一番奥まったところにあることを知っている。ここが，瞑想をしたり，経文の勉強をしたりするにはもっとも適しているのだ。そこは，やはり，北側に窓がある。

だから，部屋を探すとき，窓が北側にあることを条件として考えていた。結果的には，窓が北側にあるという理由で家賃が少しばかり安い，という僥倖にあずかることができた。おまけに一番端っこなので静か。周囲の生活音がまったく聞こえてこない。近くの小学校の通学路に指定されているので，下校時に子どもたちがいたずらしながら大きな声を発するのが聞こえてくると，なぜか，ほっとする。それほどに静かなのだ。

しかし，冬が寒い，ということはすっかり忘れていた。１０月の後半くらいから，時折，エアコンを暖房にして使っていた。１１月に入ったら，ますます冷えてきて，足元まで温めるには相当に部屋の温度をあげるしかない。そうすると，こんどは眠くなってくる。

そこで思いついたのが足温器。親しい友人が使っていて，とてもいいよ，とお墨付きだったことを思い出して，急遽，インターネットで調べて，通販に発注。それが今日，届いた。すぐにセット。これは具合がいい。エアコンの暖房を切って，この足温器だけで間に合ってしまう。足元さえ暖かくすることができれば，頭の方はむしろ涼しい方がいい。むかしから「頭寒足熱」という。頭脳労働者には，これが大原則。

これで明日から研究所の事務所通いが楽しくなる。

さて，どこまで効率よく仕事がはかどるか。あとは気分よく仕事をするのみ。でも，楽しみがあるということだけで，気分もよくなってくる。こういう環境づくりをしないと，喜んで勉強をしない，なんていうのはまるで子どもみたい。それでいいのだ，子どもでいいのだ，と自分に言い聞かせる。

2008-11-16 足温器が届く。
