_ テレビがないので，新聞を３紙，買ってきて読み比べている。家で定期講読しているものを含めると４紙になる。朝日，読売，毎日，日経。これらを事務所の床（板の間）に四方に全部ひろげ，その真ん中に座って，一ページずつめくっていく。これは圧巻である。
どの新聞も，９日の朝には第１面に北京オリンピックの開会式の写真を掲載した。写真の内容は異なるものの，マスゲームを取り上げた点では同じだった。それだけの迫力があった，ということなのだろう。
そのマスゲームに参加している人たちの顔をよくみると，ほぼ，同じような年齢にみえる。よくよくみると，頭髪の刈り方まで，よく似ている。少なくとも，頭髪の裾の方の長さはほとんど同じである。いかにも中国らしい，というべきか。
テレビをみた人の感想をきくと，とてもよく訓練されていて，みごとな演出と演技だったという。それを聞いて，ふと，妙なことを思い出した。
それは，北京体育大学は，昨年の秋から授業はお休みにして（一年前倒しにして授業を終えて），学生さんはみんなオリンピックを成功させるために全員がなんらかの形で協力，参加，支援することになっている，というのである。だとすると，各新聞社の記者たちの目を釘付けにしたマスゲームの主役たちは，北京体育大学の学生さんたちだった，のかもしれない。ほぼ，一年がかりで準備して取り組んだとすれば，それはそれはみごとなマスゲームであったに違いない。あとで，映像を確かめてみたいと思う。もちろん，北京体育大学以外の体育大学の学生さんたちも，開会式の演技には参加していることだろう。つまり，単なる若者たちだけの集団ではなくて，ある意味では専門家の卵たちを訓練して，その人たちが大勢，力を合わせて開会式を盛り上げていたのであろう。
このことの是非をとやかく言うつもりは毛頭ない。それよりなにより，こういうことができるということが，いかにも中国らしい，ということだ。そして，これほどまでに，オリンピックを成功させるために，国を挙げて，まなじりを決して，真剣に取り組んでいる，という事実に注目したい。
そのことは，さきに挙げた４紙が，口を揃えて指摘した「中国１００年の夢の実現」であったことを証明している。この表現には深い意味がある。残念ながら，説明をはじめると長くなるので割愛するが，わたしたちはオリンピックを，そんな風には考えてもいない。もっと気楽に楽しもうと思っている。しかし，中国の指導部や国民は違う。その意識の落差が，これからどのような形で展開していくのか，４紙を見比べながら，注目していきたいと思う。
