_ 昨日，ル・クレジオのことから書きはじめたので，今日は，ル・クレジオについて今福さんの書いた限りなく美しい文章について触れておきたい。
今月の１１日（土）の朝日の朝刊の文化蘭に紙面の四分の一ほどもある大きな記事としてル・クレジオが取り上げられている。２年前に来日したとき（このとき，わたしは東京外国語大学でのシンポジウムを聞きに行きに行った），奄美大島でのル・クレジオの大きな写真も掲載されている。ご覧になった人も多いと思う。
が，この記事の主役は，なんと言っても今福さんのまことに美しい文章だ。大きな見出しは「静寂と叡智に耳澄ます人」とあり，サブ・タイトルが「ノーベル文学賞受賞のル・クレジオ氏」。新聞では滅多にお目にかかれない詩的な文章ではじまる。
_ 耳の人，というくっきりした第一印象がある。四半世紀ほど前，彼も私も住んでいたメキシコ中央高原の先住民の村外れで，一面のトウモロコシ畑をわたる風の倍音にそっと聞き耳をたてていた長身のシルエットが能裡を離れない。
二年前，三十九年ぶりの訪日を果たしたときの彼もまたおなじだった。アイヌの森のなかで囲んだ雪上の焚き火のはぜる音。奄美の汀（みぎわ）に立つガジュマルの傍らを飛ぶイトトンボのか細い羽音。古い日本語の息を残した南島の方言の断片。そうしたものに，変わらぬ長身と金髪の頭（こうべ）を少し傾げるようにして聞き耳をたてる，寡黙な聴覚の人がそこにいた。彼にとっての世界とは，耳という微細なアンテナをつうじて彼にもたらされる，人々の飾らない生活空間の口誦的で音響的なリアリティとして感受されるものだった。
_ どこまでも引用をつづけたいが，あとは，新聞で確認していただきたい。この今福さんの文章そのものが，すでにして，ル・クレジオの書く文体と共鳴している。わたしの愛読書の一つであるル・クレジオの『悪魔祓い』は，こうした「耳の人」が目に見えるモノのはるかかなたから響いてくる音を聞き取り，そこに広がる神秘的な世界を描き出す。そこは，まさに，インディオたちが聞いている音響的世界と共振する世界だ。もっと言ってしまえば，目をつむったときから始まる，もう一つの世界だ。そして，さらに踏み込んでおけば，その世界はもはやことばでは表現できない祈りの世界だ。
ここで，あえて指摘するまでもないが，ヨーロッパ近代にはじまる思考方法の原理は，なによりも「視覚」を優先させる。そして，目に見えるものをことばで表現し，抽象化させる。そうして，ますますリアリティの半分を排除し，抑圧し，隠蔽することになる。わたしたち現代文明社会に生きる人間は，このことに意識的であるにしろ，無自覚的であるにしろ，いつのまにかこうした思考原理に依拠してものごとを考えている。そして，それだけが真実だと信じている。近代科学はこうした思考方法の優先を不動のものとした。はたして，その結果はどうだったのか。いま，わたしたちはそうした思考原理を選択した結果を目の当たりにしている。諸矛盾の露呈・・・・・。
ル・クレジオ氏にノーベル文学賞が授与されると聞いたとき，わたしの能裡をまっさきにかすめたのは，近代的「視覚」優先の価値観への反省と前近代的「聴覚」世界への回帰であった。たった一つの価値観で全世界を支配しようというシナリオ（現実）がいまも着々と進行している。しかも，その価値観が根底から綻びはじめているというのに・・・・。
ル・クレジオ氏のノーベル文学賞の授与は，遅きに失した感もなきにしもあらずであるが，いまからでもいい，ヨーロッパからその反省がはじまるのであるならば・・・・。
ル・クレジオの著作の多くは日本語で読むことができる。これを機会に，もう一度，読み返してみようと思う。
