2010-02-14 横綱の起こした事件簿
_ いささか必要があって，過去の横綱が起こした事件を調べてみた。あるわ，あるわ，こんなにあったかとびっくり仰天。
その主なものを紹介してみよう。
その筆頭は，双葉山。１９４７年に，ある新興宗教に入信したまではよかったのだが，その宗教団体が警察の取り締まりの対象となる。代表者の教祖を任意で取り調べようとしたものの，出頭せず。とうとう強制捜索の対象となり，石川県の県警が本部に踏み込む，という事態となり双葉山はからだを張って，警察と対峙。とうとう我慢ならなくなった双葉山が棒を振り回して大立ち回りを演ずることになる。しかし，いかに元大横綱（このとき，時津風邪部屋の親方・前年に引退）とはいえ，多勢に無勢。とうとう，取り押さえられ「逮捕」となる。立派な公務執行妨害で，現行犯逮捕。にもかかわらず，その１０年後には日本相撲協会の理事長に就任している。しかも，いまや，横綱の鏡と言われ，品格のお手本とまで言われている。もっとも，こんなことを記憶している人は，いまや圧倒的少数派ではあるが・・・。しかも，なぜか，新聞記者もこのことには触れようともしない。勉強不足か，あるいは，意図的に無視しているのか。いずれにしても，お粗末としかいいようがない。
二番目の話。大鵬，柏戸，北の富士の３人は，拳銃を不法所持していたことで検挙されている。当時，大鵬，柏戸は横綱。人気絶頂の二枚看板。北の富士も昇進街道をまっしぐらの人気力士。このときの理事長が元・双葉山（時津風親方）。自分にも脛に傷を負っていたために強い処置を講ずることができなかったのだろうか。日本相撲協会としては，注意を与えただけで相撲をとらせている。このとき，横綱審議委員会がどのように対応したのかは，まだ未調査。どこかに記録があるはず。当時の新聞を確認するのが一番早いだろう。
三番目の話。双羽黒の暴力・失踪事件。詳しいことは省くが，親方と言い争いになり，親方夫人を突き飛ばして部屋を出て行った，という事件。そのまま，部屋にはもどらなかったので自動的に解雇となる。まあ，わがままといえば，これほどわがままな横綱も前代未聞。しかも，双羽黒は，一度も優勝経験がないのに横綱に昇進している。まことに不自然な，無理やり横綱をつくったというのが，その当時のわたしの印象。日本相撲協会も横綱審議委員会もこぞって賛成した，と記憶している。こちらも，もう少し精確に調べる必要があるが・・・。（この何年かのちに，武蔵丸は二場所連続優勝したのに，横綱昇進に待ったがかかる。武蔵丸は「差別があった」とのちに発言している。）
四番目の話。前田山事件。本場所を休場しているときに，日米野球を見物していた，というお粗末な話。
以上は，第二次世界大戦後の話。それも全部ではない。八百長相撲を取り上げたら，それこそ泥沼にはまってしまう。それ以前の話を拾いはじめたら，それはそれは面白い事件がいっぱいある。
こういう流れからみても，今回の朝青龍の事件がどの程度のものかは，少し冷静に考えればだれでもわかることだ。だから，事件の大きさをはるかに超えて，無意識にはたらいたゼノフォビアという「暴力」こそが，問い直されなくてはならない，とわたしは考える。「朝青龍排除」の大合唱。それをなんの疑問もなく受け入れる日本人の「思考停止」の問題。この問題はひとり相撲の世界のことに限定的に起きている問題ではない。いまや，あらゆるジャンルのできごとについて，メディアの流す情報をそのまま無批判に受け入れてしまう日本人の「思考停止」のもつ「暴力性」こそが問われているのだ。しかも，その背景には，「集合無意識」というもっとも見えにくい「暴力」が潜んでいる。こうした構造こそ，今回の朝青龍問題をとおして問い直されることが喫緊の課題である，とわたしは考えるのだが・・・・。
もちろん，朝青龍問題については，この他にも考えなくてはならない問題はあまりに多い。みんなで，しっかりと考えていきたいと思う。まさに，相撲を批評することは世界を批評することだ，と。このことを肝に銘しておきたい。
