2010-04-01 丸２年，足掛け４年，「ＩＳＣ・２１」。
_ 「ＩＳＣ・２１」（２１世紀スポーツ文化研究所）を開設して丸２年。「ＩＳＣ・２１」研究会をはじめて丸４年。早いものである。
定年退職後をどのように過ごすか，わたしなりに悩み，考えた。その結論がどんなに小さくてもいい，「研究所」をもつこと，それも自宅ではなく，だった。できることなら，二駅か三駅ほど電車に乗って「通勤」すること。ドアからドアまで３０分，などといろいろ原則を決めていった。そして，定年の最後の年の後半は，研究所の事務所となる部屋さがしにとりかかる。なかなか，帯に短したすきに長し，でこれはというような部屋はみつからない。なにしろ，軍資金がないのだから。でも，親切に背中を押してくれ，部屋さがしに協力してくれる友人もいて，２００８年の３月末に，ようやく部屋が見つかった。
おっかなびっくりで，部屋に机・椅子，書棚を入れて，なんとかスタート。活動は，週１回のサロンの開催，月１回の研究会の開催，あとは，毎月の連載原稿を書いたり，ときおり依頼される講演やシンポに。そして，なにより嬉しかったのは，この研究所の事務所が，夕刻以後，居酒屋となりうるということを知ったことだ。知人・友人，編集者の人たちから「○○日，勤めが終わってから遊びに行っていいか」という電話が入り，飛び上がるほど嬉しかった。もう，何十年と料理なるものに手を出したこともなかったが，まずは，できることから，と簡単なつまみをつくって待つ。そうすると，これが意外に喜ばれ，居酒屋慣れしている人たちなのに，わたしがつくった，という事実を高く評価してくれた。ああ，料理は味ではない，気持ちだ，と悟った。
人が出入りしてくれれば，仕事は自ずからやってくる。少しずつではあるが，年々，いい仕事がやってくるようになる。いろいろな人に助けられて，もう丸２年が経過した。昨年からは，某大学から客員教授として迎えてくれる，というハプニングも起こった。この仕事はことしも契約更改が成立。年に２回の集中講義がノルマ。学生さんの質がいいので，じつに楽しい。わたしの方が教えてもらうほど。
この研究所は，じつは，あと二つほど大きな事業を行っている。
一つは，研究所紀要を発行すること。こちらは，大学に勤務していたころから始めていた「研究室紀要」を引き継いで，ＩＳＣ版『ＩＰＨＩＧＥＮＥＩＡ』として創刊した。いま，第２号の編集にとりかかっている。大学時代には，公費で刊行する関係で，いろいろの縛りがあった。が，いまは，まったくなんの拘束もないので，まことに自由。そして，ふつうではありえない人に原稿の依頼をすることもできる。しかも，忙しいという理由で断られるかと思いきや，とても協力的。ありがたいことである。いま，準備を進めている第２号は，たいへんな顔ぶれになる予定である。
もう一つは，東京・名古屋・大阪と三都市を巡回して研究会を開催していること。「ＩＳＣ・２１」月例研究会と称して，原則として月１回。この会は，じつは，まだ現職のうちに準備をはじめ，定年２年前にスタート。だから，ことしで丸４年が経過。いよいよ５年目に入る。ありがたいことである。数えて第４０回目。そこで，思い切って記念の回とすべく，４月１７日（土）に西谷修さんにお願いをして，近著である『理性の探求』（岩波書店）の合評会を計画した（詳しくは，ホームページの「掲示板」を）。もう，すでに２０名を超える参加申し込みが全国からきている。
東京・名古屋・大阪には，それぞれ世話人をお願いして，その人たちに開催に関する一切をお任せしている。だから，とてもユニークな会が企画される。この時期に，一つの研究会を私的に継続することはきわめて困難である。なぜなら，多くの大学勤務者が，ピンチを迎えた大学運営のために信じられないほどのエネルギーを奪われているからだ。とても研究どころの騒ぎではない。その実情もよくわかる。だからこそ研究会が必要なのだ，というのがわたしの持論。
わたし自身は，この研究会を思考実験の場と位置づけ，つねにエッジに立つ思考の結果を投げ，みなさんの反応を待つことにしている。このことに強く反応してくれる人たちだけが，積極的にこの会に参加してくれるようになってきた。超多忙の日々を送っている人たちが，睡眠時間を削って勉強してきてくださる。そして，熱心に議論に参加してくださる。まことありがたいことである。そのつど，わたしは多くの宿題をいただいて，また，考えつづけ，本を読み，次回に投げ返す。無謀かと当初考えないではなかったが，いまはこれでよかったと大満足している。
というようなわけで，いよいよ，「ＩＳＣ・２１」は３年目に突入。そして，その研究会は５年目に突入。ことしも順調にいろいろのことが進展している。「好事魔多し」という。こころして第３年目に取り組むこととしよう。それにしても，まずは，「元気が一番」。からだが喜びそうなことをたくさんして，鋭気を養うこととしよう。いまのところは，太極拳。わたしの性格，体質には合っていると思う。心地よさをもとめて。
さくらが気がかり。そして，阪神タイガースが気がかり。でも，なんとか順調にスタートを切っている。よしよし。
