_ 少し遅れていた李自力老師の『日中太極拳交流史』（叢文社）が刊行され，今日，わたしの手元にとどきました。
ちょっと遅すぎるなぁ，といらいらしていましたが，ようやく今日，李さんと出版社の佐藤さんが事務所に現れ，本をとどけてくれました。李さんにお願いをして，サインをしてもらい，ありがたく頂戴しました。
この本には，わたしなりに思い入れがあり，できたてのホヤホヤの本を手にして，感慨無量なるものがありました。李さんもよく頑張りましたが，わたしも負けずに応援をしました。なんとしても，単行本にして世に送り出したいという強い願いがあり，そこに送達するまでに長い道程がありました。でも，李さんもよく頑張って，よくぞここまできたなぁ，と感心しています。やはり，太極拳の名手としてこんにちの地位を築いた人だけあって，これまでにいくつもの困難なハードルがありましたが，黙って耐え忍びながら，それらのハードルを一つずつクリアして，ここまでたどりつくことができました。文武両道に秀でる人というのは，そんなには多くないと思いますが，李さんはそれをもみごとにクリアする，素晴らしい人であるということが，この本の刊行によって実証されました。
考えてみれば，ここに到達するまでに，わたしは随分と李さんに難しい注文をいくつか出しました。それらについて，なに一つ，愚痴をこぼすこともなく，ただ黙ってそれをクリアすることに専念していました。この人はいったい何者だろうか，とすら思っていました。なぜなら，わたしが了解している李自力という人物とは，とても考えられないような次元の事態がしばしば起こっていても，かれは平然としているわけです。そして，少しも騒がず，なんとかなります，と平然としています。大丈夫かなぁ，とわたしが心配していても，どうということもありません。なのに，事態はいつのまにやら平穏に収まっているから不思議です。この人の懐の深さはちょっと推測しかねてしまいます。
今日は，とても，李さんの気持ちが開いていたというべきか，これまでに聞いたこともない話をたくさんしてくれました。
たとえば，陸上競技は得意で，こどものころから大活躍をしたことがあるとか。知る人は知っていてくれると思いますが，李さんは，こどものとき（１２歳）から太極拳のプロとして生活していた人です。ですから，ふつうの子どもたちのように学校生活を送っていません。でも，プロとしての活動をしながら，地元の中学（昆明第一中学校）に通います。ですから，太極拳のプロとして同級生たちは認めています。が，駆けっこになると，中学の陸上部の選手たちに負けてはいなかったとのこと。とくに，短距離のリレーや幅跳び，そして１１０ｍハードル（この種目はとくに好きだったとのこと），３０００ｍも得意種目だった・・・・とか，つぎからつぎへといろいろの話がでてきます。これまで随分長い付き合いだったのに，こういう話は，今日が初めてでした。要するに，スポーツ万能の選手だったということが，今日，初めてわかりました。のみならず，勉強の方もとてもよくできたらしく，自分のことは棚に上げておいて，なにも語らないのですが，同級生の思い出話を聞きながら，そのことがよくわかりました。同級生の多くが，いい大学に進学して，いまも立派になっているけれども，李さんも負けてはいなかったことが節々にでてきます。いまや，中国全体でいえば，李さんがダントツに有名人になっているわけですので，それも当然かと思います。
自分の好きな道，得意な道を，早く見つけられた人は幸せだと思います。李さんはその典型的な例の一人だろうと想像しています。いや，いまでは，まぎれもなくそういう人である，とわたしは確信しています。
こういう大変な人と出会えたことが，わたしの大事な財産です。これから，この人とどのようなお付き合いができるかなぁ，と楽しみにしているところです。
李さん，今日はほんとうにおめでとうございます。お酒が呑める人であれば，一緒に乾杯したいところですが・・・・，残念。
でも，かならず出版記念パーティをわたしの事務所でやりましょうね。そして，もっともっと，いろいろのお話を聞かせてください。楽しみにしています。
