_ 朝青龍が優勝した。場所前の調子はけしてよくなかった（怪我もあったし）のに，優勝決定戦で白鵬を破っての優勝。立派。
結果的には，ことしの初場所の再現となった。２番とも素晴らしい相撲だった。やはり，相撲は立ち合いにある，としみじみ思った。立ち合いでいかにして先手をとるか，ここがすべて。
本割では，白鵬が，これ以上にいい立ち合いはない，という理想的な立ち合いをみせ，一気に土俵際まで押し込んで（すでに，このとき朝青龍は土俵を割っていた）おいてからの上手投げ。絵に描いたように決まった。朝青龍の重心が高かったこともあって，なおさら，白鵬の立ち合いの重心の低さといい，当たる角度といい，申し分のなさが光った。しかし，この本割での圧勝に，じつは落とし穴があった。白鵬は，この圧勝で優勝決定戦も勝てる，と確信したように思う。見ていた人も多くの人は，そう思ったに違いない。しかし，そうは問屋が卸さない。
初場所のときもそうだった。朝青龍は，すぐに頭を切り換えた。どうやって左の前まわしをとるか，そのためには低い姿勢で潜り込むしかない，と。決定戦の立ち合いは，よくみると（何回もリピートしてくれたのでわかったこと），朝青龍は右手で相手ののどを突き上げている。そうして，ややのけぞったところで，さっと左の前みつを上手ながら引いた。これで勝負あり，である。しかし，そこからの攻防もみごとだった。朝青龍が，すぐに左から出し投げを打って，相手の体勢をくずし，さらに右の前みつも引いて頭をつける。しかし，白鵬は，なんとしても右四つに組止めようとして必死に体勢を建て直そうとする。一瞬，右四つになりかけた。その瞬間，右からの下手投げからすくい投げへと，体勢がくずれながらもからだを寄せていく。白鵬のからだがもんどり打って転がる。そのからだの上を一回転させて朝青龍も転がっていく。勝負がついた瞬間，まだ，からだが土俵の上に転がっているときに，朝青龍は小さくこぶしをにぎりガッツ・ポーズ。そして，土俵を降りるときに，こんどは両手を高々と挙げてガッツ・ポーズ。解説者（もと北の富士）はすかさず「あれをやらなければいいんだが・・・」とコメントをつける。でもすぐに「無意識のうちにああなってしまうんだろうけど・・・」とフォローする。
いっとき自信をなくしかけた朝青龍だったが，これでみごとな復活である。今場所はなんといっても「集中力」がとぎれることなく，最後まで持続した。ここに朝青龍の「成長」をみる。夜１０時のサンデー・スポーツにゲスト出演した朝青龍の表情をみていて，「大人の顔になったなぁ」と思った。ちょうど千秋楽が２９歳の誕生日だという。ついこの間までは，「やんちゃ坊主」の顔が前面にでていたが，今夜の顔は立派な大人の顔だった。話し方も落ち着いて，なかなかの貫祿である。やはり，苦労を乗り越えてきた人の貫祿である。
双葉山を尊敬し，目標としている白鵬の今場所の相撲もまたみごとであった。かれの下半身の粘り強さは双葉山のそれと似ている。そして，心なしか体型も細身で，しかも，柔らかい体質もよく似ている。白鵬が，決定戦で負けた悔しさをバネにして，さらに強くなっていくことを期待したい。タイプのまったく違う両横綱のつばぜり合いこそ，多くの相撲ファンの望むところだ。
来場所も大いに土俵を沸かせてほしい。楽しみである。
