2008-12-06 三鷹天命反転住宅を見学。
_ 『談』の編集長佐藤真さんのお誘いで，荒川修作の「三鷹天命反転住宅」の見学会に参加した。養老天命反転地や奈義現代美術館の「太陽」とは少しばかり趣を異にしていた。なるほど，住宅にするとこういうことになるのか，と合点。
午後３時に現地集合。空を荒れ模様。武蔵境からタクシーに乗る。その間，断続的に雨が降っている。しかし，わたしが三鷹天命反転住宅の前で降りたときには雨はピタリと止んでいる。よし，いつもの天気幸運男。
現地にはすでに何人かがきており，わたしのあとにも続々とやってくる。みんな知らない人たちばかり。総勢２０人ほどか。ほどなく，住宅の中から佐藤さんが迎えにきてくれる。
まず，空き室になっている部屋を見せてもらった。なにを隠そう，この住宅は一般の人に賃貸で貸しているのだ。精確に数えたわけではないが，写真でみるかぎりでは，全部で１２室ほどか。ほとんどの部屋は人が住んでいる。そのなかの空き室を見せてもらった，という次第。
この住宅の様子を言説化することには基本的に問題がある。養老天命反転地も奈義現代美術館も，体験の場としてつくられている。つまり，からだをとおして「感じる」こと，「体験する」こと，そして，「変化する」ことを求められているからだ。だから，その場に立って，動いて，自分のからだがなにを語りだすか，その声に耳を傾けること，それが重要なのだ，と荒川修作の本にはある。
とはいえ，おおよその言説化が可能なことがらについては書いておくことにしよう。部屋のタイプは二つ。２ＬＤＫと３ＬＤＫで，それぞれ５２平方ｍと６０平方ｍほどの大きさ。基本設計は，円形のダイニング・キッチンを中心に，三つなしい四つの部屋が外に飛び出している。その飛び出した部屋の間をつなぐようにしてバルコニーがある。たとえば，四つの部屋は，スタディ・ルーム，畳部屋，寝室，バス・ルーム。
スタディ・ルームは，全体がほぼ球体でできている。その球体の約六分の一ほどが外に向けた平面の窓ガラス，その部屋への出入り口が円周の約八分の一ほど切り取られている。それ以外はすべて球体の壁。もちろん，床も球体のまま。中に入って話をしてみると，自分の声が不思議な反響をして自分の耳に跳ね返ってくる。壁との向き合い方によって，つまり，立ち位置によんて響き方が違うのである。これはまことに楽しい仕掛け。それが，なんと，スタディ・ルーム。
畳部屋は，ほぼ正方形の部屋に円形の畳が中央にあって，その余白部分は部屋の入り口が板の間，奥の窓側は玉砂利が敷いてある。ここは大の字になって寝ころんでみると，なかなか気持ちがいい。和室と思しき部屋のなかに玉砂利が敷いてある，この発想がいかにも荒川修作らしい。うつ伏せに寝ころんで，窓の外を眺めながら，玉砂利に手を触れ，転がしたりして遊んでいると，なんだか身もこころも開かれてくる感じがする。荒川修作は，そういう姿勢で「スパゲッティでも食べてごらん，世界観が変わるよ」と言っている（説明書）。
バス・ルームも正方形の部屋でドアはない。中央にシャワー室，その奥の窓側にトイレ。トイレには使用中は音楽が流れる装置がついている。丸見えではないか，と聞いてみると，必要ならカーテンを下げればいい，とのこと。でも，このまま使っている人が多いとのこと。
寝室も正方形の部屋。床も平ら。ごくごくふつうの部屋。
さて，問題のダイニング・キッチン。全体は円形で，ややすり鉢状に中央が低くなっていて，その中心に太い柱が一本。その柱のまわりは人が一人動ける程度の空間がある。その外側をテーブルとキッチンがドーナッツ型にしつらえてある。テーブルは外側から切りこたつのように中央に向かって足を入れて座る。その周囲は「たたき」をイメージしたという，でこぼこでざらざらのコンクリート。しかも，中央に向けてゆるやかに傾斜している。裸足で歩くとこれがまたなんとも快感なのである。
日本縄文学会の人たちがやってきて，玄関から足を一歩踏み入れたとたんに「あっ，これは竪穴式だ」と言ったそうである。なるほど，と納得。言いえて妙である。
こんなところが，まずは，第一印象。このあと，この住宅を管理している荒川東京事務所に移動。ここも，いま説明した部屋と同じ３ＬＤＫ。さきほどのものは「空き室」であったが，ここは実際に事務所として使われている。なるほど，事務所として使えばこんな風になるのか，とこれまた感動。ありとあらゆるスペースを利用して，面白い工夫がされている。これはまあ，書きはじめるとエンドレス。今日のところはここまで。
このあと，吉祥寺の不思議な店（フリー・ミュージックとワインとチーズが絶妙）に流れて行って，ここでまた盛り上がる。
