2008-12-21 東京月例会が無事に終わる。
_ ２０日（土）は午後１時から５時間にわたる第２５回「ＩＳＣ・２１」東京月例研究会が，青山学院大学で開催された。３人が発表。夜の懇親会には１０人が参加。大いに盛り上がる。
青山学院大学の河本洋子先生のお世話で会場をお借りすることができ，とても助かった。第一に，なによりロケーションがいい。渋谷から歩いて５分。そして，環境がいい。教室の設備もいい。景色がきれい。もう，云うことなしだ。会場が６階だったこともあって，東京都心の景色が目の前に手にとるように広がっている。こうして眺めてみると，ふだん感じている東京よりもはるかに狭いなぁ，と思う。すぐそこに代々木体育館がみえ，そのすぐ向こうは神宮の森だ。そして，そこに隣接するように新宿のビル群がみえる。しばらくは，研究会どころではなく，景色ばかりに見とれていた。これは病み付きになりそう。これからおねだりをして，この会場は借りられたらなぁ，と夢見る。
大岡昇平の小説に『青山学院物語』というのがある。あまり知られていないかもしれないが，わたしは大岡昇平ファンだったことがあるので，こんな小説まで読んだことがある。大岡昇平は付属小学校からの生え抜きで，いうならば青山っ子で，大学だけは余所に行った。その大岡昇平が自分が通った時代の風物をふんだんに語っている。もう遠くなっている記憶を頼りに，思い出せる範囲で書いてみるとつぎのようだ。
渋谷から青山学院までは広々とひろがる原っぱだったという。そして，その原っぱのなかに牧場があり，学校の農場があり，電車の引き込み線があった，という。まことにのどかな風景がひろがっていた，というのである。いまの，この都会化した姿からは想像もできない。その証拠のひとつは，青山学院の裏の方の國學院大学との境目あたりのところに，むかしここに牧場があったという「碑文」が立っている。近道をしようとして道に迷い，あちこち歩きまわった，これはその成果だ。
その牧場の近くには，比較的大きな家が一軒あって，それは，いまの中村屋（新宿）の初代が新婚だったころに住んでいて，のちに，夫人だけがひとりで住んだところだ（夫は安曇野に住む）。そして，詳しいことは省くが，若い文人や詩人や画家・彫刻家といったアーティストの卵たちが集まり，寄宿していたという。とりわけ，安曇野出身の関係者が寄り集まっていたらしい。このころの様子は，臼井吉見の『安曇野』という小説に詳しい。
この牧場は，もうちょっとで，日本で最初の競馬場になるところだった，という話もある。この話はつぶれて，結局は，北海道に作られることになった。作者は忘れてしまったが『日本で最初に競馬場を作った男』というノン・フィクションのなかにその話がでてくる。
こうして考えると青山学院というところはなかなか馴染みやすいところになる。わたしの個人的な思い出を語れば，大学を卒業してから間借りをしていた大家さんが青山学院の中等部の先生で，この人にはずいぶんとお世話になった。金がなくて苦労していると，家庭教師の口を紹介してくれた。それも大金持ちのお坊ちゃんで，日曜日に逗子まで通った。いまでは信じられないような待遇だった。手当てのほかに，夏にはお中元と称して夏用の上下のスーツをプレゼントしてくれたし，冬にはお歳暮と称して冬用のやはりスーツをくれた。たぶん，わたしがよほど貧しい恰好をしていたのだ。そんな見すぼらしい学生さんに出入りしてほしくなかったのだろう。いま，思うと冷や汗ものである。逗子の大きなお屋敷だった。中庭で野球をして遊ぶことができたほどだ。
とまあ，初めて開催した青山学院大学での「ＩＳＣ・２１」東京月例会のご縁で，さまざまなことを思い出した。懐かしい思い出ばかりだ。こんど，ここで開催されることがあったら，キャンパス内をじっくりと見学させてもらおうと思う。だれか一緒にお付き合いしてくれませんか。そのときには，大岡昇平の『青山学院物語』を片手にもって。なぜなら，そのなかに，大岡氏の手書きになる地図が載っていたはずだから・・・・。
