_ 古代オリンピック競技は，ゼウス神を祀る祭典競技として，祝祭として行われていた。これを，バタイユ的に解釈すると・・・・。
紀元前７７６年にはじまったとされる古代オリンピック競技は，残された記録から類推するだけでも，相当に不思議な世界を現出していたことがわかる。まず，第一に，古代オリンピック競技は祭祀儀礼の一環として，祝祭的な時空間のなかで行われた，ということだ。だから，開会式（初日）には，飾りたてた雄牛を先頭にして選手・役員がそろって，オリンピアの聖域を行進し，雄牛をゼウス神殿の前で供犠として捧げ，その血を祭壇に塗りたくり，肉を焼いて，みんなで食べた。つまり，共食儀礼を行っているのである。なぜ，このようなことが，古代オリンピックが滅亡するまで，ほほ１２００年間もの長きにわたって行われていたのであろうか。これまでの説明では，ゼウスはギリシア多神教の頂点に立つ全能の神さまなので，まず，オリンピアの聖域の中心に位置するゼウスの神殿の前で，雄牛を捧げ，無事にオリンピアの祭典競技が終わることを祈願したのだ，という。まずは，ゼウス神を喜ばせて，神々のご加護がえられるように，当時のもっとも貴重な「財産」である雄牛を供犠として捧げたのだ，つまり，祭祀儀礼を行ったのだ，ということになっている。
しかし，バタイユに言わせれば（なにも発言はしていないのだが，以下は，わたしのバタイユ解釈にもとづく）そうではない。もし，そのような解釈がなされるようになったとしても，それはかなり時代が下って，合理的な歴史解釈が行われるようになってからのことだ，と。つまりは，近代的な解釈ではないか，と。それ以前は，そうではなかったはずだ，とバタイユなら言うだろう。
おそらく，古代オリンピック競技がはじまるはるか以前から，雄牛を犠牲にして神にささげる儀礼は行われていたはずだ。その，最初の発端となった考え方は，家畜化した牛を，もう一度，本来の野性の動物に送り帰すことにあったのだ，と。人間は，野性の牛を飼い馴らして家畜化することに成功した。本来が，自然の真っ只中にあって，あらゆる動物たちと同じように，野性のなかで生きているべき存在であった。人間もまたそうであった。しかし，人間は一足さきに，動物とたもとを分かって，ヒトから人間へと進化をはたした。この詳細については，ここでは省略する。が，人間はみずから，動物性から離脱して，人間性へと移行したことについて，自然に対してある種の負い目を負っていた。だから，人間がまずは，定期的に本来の動物性を取り戻すための祭祀を行う必要を感じていた。そのために，わざわざ祝祭のための時空間を設定して，文字どおり，野性に帰る，動物性を取り戻すための酒池肉林を展開したのだ，と。こうして，人間は，定期的に，野性の荒々しさを取り戻し，つまり，先祖返りをすることによって生命力を賦活させようと考えたのだ，と。
これと同じように，本来，自然のままの動物であった牛を人間が家畜化してしまったことによって，牛の動物性が制御され，野性から遠ざかってしまう。だから，牛もまた，定期的に，自然存在に送り帰す必要があると，原初の人間たちは考えた。その送り帰すための儀礼として「供犠」が行われるようになったのだ，と。だから，雄牛の「供犠」は，ゼウス神に捧げることが最初だったのではない，ということだ。
こうした一種の慣習行動が，古代ギリシアの各地で行われていたはずで，それが，オリンピアの祭典競技の祭祀の一部として継承されたのだ，ということになろうか。一説によれば，古代オリンピアの祭典競技のはじまりは，葬送儀礼にあったという。だとすれば，牛の供犠の意味はさらに拡大され，深い意味を帯びてくる。
だから，雄牛の供犠は，ゼウス神の信仰体系が成立する以前からの，古代ギリシア人たちの祈りの形態のひとつであった，ということだ。
こうして，この祭祀儀礼にともなう供犠をとおして，人間は「死」と真っ正面から向き合い，そこから生まれる「聖なるもの」の経験，あるいは，「至高体験」をすることになる。そして，この体験が，少しずつ整備されていって，ゼウス神の信仰体系が整っていくことになる。そのとき，それ以前から行われていた雄牛の供犠という儀礼が吸収された，と。
ヒトはみずからの動物性を「否定」することによって人間となり，牛は人間によって自然から遠ざけられ，牛本来の野性を「否定」されることによって家畜化された。しかし，供犠は，もう一度，野性をとりもどすための儀礼として，本来の動物性のもとに送り帰すことを意味している。そして，このことを仕掛ける人間もまた，動物性を取り戻そうとする。つまり，供犠は，「否定の否定」の上に成立するひとつの文化装置なのだ。
この点を明らかにしたことが，バタイユの功績の一つとして，もっと注目されてもいい，とわたしは考えるのだが・・・・。
ところで，古代オリンピック競技では，選手たちは「全裸」で競技を行った。つまり，「裸体競技」だったのである。なぜ，一糸まとわぬ，すっぽんぽんのはだかで競技を行ったのか，これはいまだに定説がない。しかし，バタイユの仮説を用いると，意外にするりと説明できてしまう，とわたしは考えるのだが・・・。
