2009-10-31 『「不良」長寿のすすめ』を読む。
_ なんとなく気になったので，ＴＡＳＣから送られてきたもう一冊の本『「不良」長寿のすすめ』──「まじめ」は寿命を縮める（奥村康著，宝島新書）も読んでみた。おもしろかった。
なにがおもしろかったかといえば，世界的な免疫学者である著者が，医学的根拠を提示した健康神話のほとんどは間違いだ，と言っていることだ。たとえば，昨日の肺ガンとタバコの関係についても，まったく同じことを言っている。タバコと肺ガンの因果関係については，ほんとうのことはほとんどなにもわかってはいないのであって，だれか権威のある人（たとえば，ＷＨＯ）が勝手に断定しているだけの話である，と断言している。そして，肺ガンで亡くなられた筑紫哲也さんの談話「タバコが肺ガンの原因であるとは思っていない。タバコは肺ガンになる引き金にはなったかもしれないが，主たる原因はニュース２３を長年にわたって担当してきたことによるストレスだと思う」を紹介しながら，この談話の免疫学的な正当性を明らかにしている。
なぜ，間違った医学的根拠が巷に流布するのか，ということの説明もおもしろかった。最初は，著名な医学者が論文のなかで，ＡとＢとの間にはこれこれの因果関係があるのではないかと「推定」される，と書く。これを，だれかが引用する。そして，それをまた引用する。つまり，電話ゲームと同じで，いつのまにか「推定」される，が消えてしまって「因果関係がある」だけが残り，それが誤った「定説」として受け止められ，一人歩きをはじめる。そして，気がついたときには，もはや，止めようのない燎原の火のごとく大勢の人を納得させてしまう。こうなるともはやいくら訂正を出しても手遅れなのだそうだ。しかも，この誤った「定説」を利用して，金儲けをしようとする健康産業があまたと存在することも，追い風となって，いつのまにか世間全体がそれを「鵜呑み」にすることになる。こういう恐るべき「暴力」装置が，ここかしこに待ち受けている，と教えてくれる。
わたしには，５０歳のときに大きな病気をして，死線をさまよう，という経験がある。それ以前から，職業上，健康の保持増進ということについては大いに関心があって，その手の本はずいぶんと読んできていた。が，その大病後は，一段と熱心に健康法に関する本を読んだ。そして，かなり医学の領域まで踏み込んで，勉強もした。しかし，その手の本を読めば読むほど，巷に流布している健康神話のほとんどは信用できない，ということに気づいた。そして，還暦をすぎたころからは，健康にかかわる本を無視することにした。だから，最近は，まったく見向きもしないできた。ただ，姪疫学の本はおもしろそうだったので，こちらはかなり読んだ。目からうろこが落ちるような，日進月歩の研究成果がつぎつぎに登場して，驚きの連続であった。が，それも，もういいや，と思うようになっていた。
そこに，こんどのこの本である。しかし，この本はおもしろかった。
とりわけ，結論を述べた部分がおもしろかった。「まじめ」な人間は長生きできない。だから，不良になって，やりたいことをやれ。食べたいものを食べろ。太ってもいい。そして，腹の底から笑える機会を多くもて。笑うのも立派な運動である。そうすれば免疫力が高まり，長生きができる，と。
昨日の「タバコ狩り」と同じ構造をもっているものの一つとして「メタボ狩り」を，この著者は指摘している。「メタボ」のどこが健康に悪いのか，これまたなんの根拠もないのだそうだ。むしろ，最近の統計によれば，むしろ太り気味の人たちの方が丈夫で長生きする，と。その証拠には，年々，メタボの人が増え続けているにもかかわらず，平均寿命もまた着実に伸びている，と。とりわけ，晩年はメタボの方が免疫力は高い，と。
というような話が満載されていて，この本はおもしろかった。
最後に，わたしがびっくりした医学の「戒め」を抜き書きしておこう。出典は，医師の教科書『ドクターズルール４２５』（南江堂）。
「病院は危険の場所である。賢明な方法で，しかもできるだけ短期間利用しなさい」
「可能ならすべての薬を中止せよ。不可能なら，できるだけ多くの薬を中止せよ」
「薬の数が増えれば副作用の可能性はネズミ算的に増える」
「４種類以上の薬を飲んでいる患者は医学知識の及ばぬ危険な領域にいる」
「高齢者のほとんどは薬を中止すると体調がよくなる」
